Living it up: Ceili reflects on her gap year with El Casal

I was in Barcelona with El Casal in the Winter/Spring of 2015.  Barcelona became more beautiful as we were there because flowers started to bloom along with the trees. This was a highlight for me because that was the first time I had spent more than a weekend in a large city.

There are lots of good reasons for taking a gap year but, whether you’re looking for language fluency, academic enrichment or involvement in the local community, having fun probably fits into your plans. Just living in Barcelona is a treat for the eyes and ears and tastebuds and, if your budget is unlimited, you can go back home with lots of wonderful and expensive memories.Let’s assume, though, that you’re on a budget.  Can you still have fun? The answer is definitely “¡Sí!”

Andalucía Trip, October 2014

This fall, for the first time, El Casal included a 4-day, 3-night trip to Sevilla and Córdoba in Andalucía, southern Spain. For many of our gappers in previous semesters, Andalucía had been a little too far away or a little too expensive for a long-weekend trip.

We thought that no one should leave Spain after three months without having seen this beautiful and intriguing land which was ruled by Arabs and Moors for over 700 years, so we’ve incorporated it into our program.
