The magic of Barcelona

Barcelona is one of the most dynamic, livable and tolerant cities in the world, a jewel on the Mediterranean Sea. A truly multicultural city, it reflects the reality of the world we live in. Its art, architecture and history provide a rich environment for developing intercultural competence and global citizenship.

Where you’ll live

To get the most out of the experience, you’ll live with a host family carefully matched to you and your interests. El Casal teachers and mentors will help you adjust to host family life: the daily schedule, your diet and your need for space and independence as well. Our families give you consistent, day-to-day language and cultural immersion and a real insider’s understanding of the city, its people and its places.

Day-to-day in Barcelona

Normally, your weekday mornings will be built around Spanish language classes and El Casal’s interdisciplinary core course (taught in Spanish). One day a week will usually be devoted to visiting well-known –and less well-known– corners of the city, for a rich and varied intercultural experience.

The afternoons are yours to structure as you see fit. You’ll have ample time for community service, individual pursuits, meeting people, cooking classes, gyms or exercise.

Most weekends are free as well and you’ll be able to travel independently on day trips or overnight stays.
